“Everyone needs a coach. It doesn’t matter whether you’re a basketball player, a tennis player, a gymnast or a bridge player.” – Bill Gates
While coaching has traditionally been associated with sports, it has now become applicable in every area – business, personal development, management, innovation, leadership, happiness and overall wellbeing – not that these are mutually exclusive areas of life anyways. Coaching helps a person change in the way they wish and to helps them to make tangible progress in the directions they want to go. In essence, coaching builds awareness, empowers choice, activates inherent strengths and resources, opens possibilities and leads to change.
Coaching is really a partnership between the coach and the client that comes to life within a productive and result-oriented context. Coaching provides a safe space for the client to voice and explore their ambitions as well as their fears. It helps them acknowledge and embody their strengths and bring out their inherent but untapped potential. It helps them identify and understand patterns in their thinking and behaviour that is limiting them or holding them back. It gives them an opportunity to challenge themselves and work through their previous limits under the guidance of a non-judgemental facilitator who gently but firmly holds them accountable to their own growth agenda. In a nutshell, the coach helps the client to achieve their personal best and to produce the results they want in their personal and professional lives.
Coaching works only when clients are ready to be coached. For its success, it is imperative that both parties enter into it willingly with clear expectations and agreements on how the process will work. As a coach I will invite you to challenge yourself and to experiment with new behaviours and actions so that we can generate new possibilities for your future. I will push you at times to inquire into your old beliefs and to break your old mental models and patterns. I will push you to commit to small but regular action steps so that you can create lasting and transformational change for yourself. My coaching style requires you to maintain a daily journal and commit to at least 15 minutes of meditation every day followed by 10 minutes of self-journaling (that you will share with me). This daily practice of meditation followed by self journaling forms an essential part of our coaching journey together.
